The Ginkgo tree is famous for its fan shaped leaves with triangular shapes. Its leaves, new growth stems and round fruits have been one of my favorite motifs to explore in my work throughout my career.
During my undergraduate years at the Kansas City Art Institute, I befriended a huge Ginkgo tree. I would lure classmates to experience ‘Total Leaf Fall’ knowing the day he would defoliate all his leaves. We would lie beneath him as a shower of golden leaves would cover us as city noises were slowly silenced beneath his cloak. This is a wonderful experience.
